Depends on what you're wearing. Gold fill and sterling silver hold up to daily wear but aren't meant for the pool, the shower, or a sweaty workout; give them a quick wipe after and they'll outlast plated gold by years.
Sterling silver can turn your skin dark (but not green) on rare occasion due to oxidation and skin chemistry. A quick rinse will rectify this.
